BIO:

Hi! I’m Katie, and my debut, YOU BETWEEN THE LINES, is coming out in February 2025 from Forever. I am, first and foremost, a cat-loving, Millennial-ennui-afflicted Swiftie, but after that, I am a lifetime writer, both day and night. I have a BA in creative writing and an MFA in poetry, and I’ve worked as a full-time marketing copywriter for over nine years for a variety of international brands. Originally from Ohio, I now live in Stockholm, Sweden.

MSWL:

I love contemporary romance—either with com or not. I’m also a literary fiction fan (Sally Rooney, Cecilia Rabess, Curtis Sittenfeld-adjacent work is very much my thing), and I’m a good fit for romances that have literary elements (what you might query as “upmarket” or “book club”) like Yulin Kuang, Tia Williams and Carley Fortune.

I would love to work with you on sexual tension (it's my passion), and anything with a lot of “fraught” encounters is the most exciting to me. I love angst!

My favorite tropes: Enemies-to-lovers, second chance, childhood-friends-to-lovers

I love books with mental health as a storyline, neurodivergent protagonists, medium-to-high heat, open door romances, though I also enjoy lower heat romances when the tension is high (like SAME TIME NEXT SUMMER by Annabel Monaghan).

Some recent favorites include HOW TO END A LOVE STORY by Yulin Kuang, RIGHT WHERE WE LEFT US by Jen Devon, SLOW DANCE by Rainbow Rowell, A LOVE SONG FOR RICKI WILDE by Tia Williams, TAKE ME HOME by Melanie Sweeney, THE EX VOWS by Jessica Joyce, BUT HOW ARE YOU, REALLY by Ella Dawson, NOT ANOTHER LOVE SONG by Julie Soto.

I’m probably not the best fit for: Anything with a strong religious storyline. While I enjoy a precocious, quirky kid in a romance, I’m not a good fit for anything related to pregnancy, stories that could be described as “clean” or “wholesome” or even “sweet,” and books with arcs or characters centered around the military or law enforcement.

MENTORING STYLE

I’ve been in high school, college, and grad school-level writing workshops for years, so I’m sensitive to what feedback is *actually* helpful. I’d try to meet you where you are and give options or brainstorm ideas, trying to make your work the best it can become instead of turning it into something it’s not. I don’t believe in being prescriptive — you know your story best — but I’d keep it real whenever you want my honest (but obviously subjective!) feedback. I’m open to any communication channel you prefer—Zooms, emails, Discord messages, in-document comments, whatever.

APPLICATIONS FROM CONNECTIONS

I don't have a preference regarding who may submit to me, even if we have connected in the past.
