BIO:

My debut historical romance novel, THE LADY HE LOST, was published by Sourcebooks Casablanca in April 2024, and features a heroine who is trying to earn her financial independance by starting a lady's gambling club and a cinnamon roll hero who was presumed dead after being lost at sea. The second book in this series, A LADY'S GUIDE TO LONDON, is forthcoming in April 2025. I write funny, feminist books featuring enthusiastic consent. I am represented by Rebecca Strauss at DeFiore Literary.

Some of my favourite authors are (Historical Romance) Tessa Dare, Courtney Milan, and Meredith Duran; (Contemporary Romance) Olivia Dade and Tia Williams; (Fantasy) Fonda Lee, Rebecca Roanhorse, and R.F. Kuang. Some of my favourite TV shows are Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Our Flag Means Death, Fleabag, and Severance. As a good Canadian, I also enjoy putting extra U's in words.

MSWL:

Even though I write historical, I love reading in different genres and I would be a good fit for historical, fantasy, or contemporary romance. I include a lot of humour in my writing, but my tastes as a reader include both light-hearted and more angsty stories.

I am happy to receive work by authors and featuring characters from all backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Monogamous couples or poly / why choose romance are all great. I read all heat levels, but not erotica.

Some tropes I love include: fake dating, grumpy/sunshine, mutual pining, rivals or friends to lovers.

I love cinnamon rolls, but I can also get behind a good brooding/mysterious LI. I am not a good fit for alpha-type characters. If your LI is doing something that would be a red flag in real life, like slut shaming or getting controlling or smashing things while they're angry, it's not for me. That's not to say I don't like flawed or "unlikable" characters! But the flaws need to be something that doesn't overlap with abusive or bigoted behaviour.

Please do not send me anything that contains on-page sexual violence, or where the threat of sexual violence is used to up dramatic tension. I don't mind reading about characters that have trauma in their past as long as it is handled with sensitivity and not for shock value, but I prefer not to read about it unfolding in real-time. I'm also not a good fit for police or military MCs, or age-gap if the younger party is under 25 (youngish characters that are close in age are fine).

MENTORING STYLE

I have a full-time job and kids to care for as well as writing, so it's easier for me to find time to email or DM in the evenings after they are in bed than it is to find time during the day. We could definitely do a few video chats to get to know each other and brainstorm (maybe monthly, if that works for you), but email and DM will be my go-to modes of communication the rest of the time. I am very open and frank about my publishing experience and industry advice. Editorially, I don't think it's helpful to try to impose my own vision on your work. I think the most productive discussions are about getting an outside set of eyes to pinpoint what's working and what's not, and to help you brainstorm your own solutions. I would like to ask questions to help you dig deeper into your characters and plot to identify why something is happened on page.

APPLICATIONS FROM CONNECTIONS

If we're in the same discord or are mutuals on social media, feel free to apply as long as we have only had casual, occasional interactions. If we have ever beta read for each other in the past or had extensive conversations online, please apply to a different mentor to keep the process fair and unbiased.
