MENTOR:

Naina Kumar (she/her) & Ellie Palmer (she/her)

CATEGORY:

New Adult, Adult

SUB GENRES:

Contemporary Romance, Rom Com, Fiction with strong romantic elements

BIO:

Naina and Ellie met while applying for writing mentorship programs. Though they got into different programs (Naina is a RevPit Winner and Ellie is an Author Mentor Match Alum), their friendship was forever! They queried together, went on submission together, debuted together, and, now, they’re looking to mentor together!

Naina Kumar is the bestselling author of Say You’ll Be Mine. A lawyer by day and a reader and writer of romance at night, she lives in Texas, close to her family whose antics provide endless inspiration. When she’s not writing, she enjoys taking her rowdy rescue dog on walks, rewatching Gilmore Girls on a loop, and shopping at HEB. She is represented by Johanna Castillo at Writers House.

Ellie Palmer is the author of Four Weekends and a Funeral, a carrier of the BRCA1 mutation, and a prototypical Midwesterner who routinely apologizes to inanimate objects when she bumps into them. When she’s not writing romantic comedies featuring delightfully messy characters, Ellie’s at home in Minnesota, eating breakfast food, watching too much reality television, and triple texting her husband about their son. Ellie is represented by Laura Bradford at Bradford Literary Agency.

MSWL:

We are big fans of 90s romcoms and love anything with those vibes. Give us all of the banter, humor, and tension! We love authors who can take on serious topics in ways that make us laugh one minute and cry the next. Though Ellie typically writes closed-door and Naina writes medium heat, we’re open to mentees writing at all heat levels! We’re also very open to authors from all marginalized backgrounds!

We are not the best fit for:
-Hard sci-fi
-Dark Romance sub-genre
-Erotic Romance/Erotica
-Anything featuring sexual assault or child abuse
-Stories with cheating, dubcon/noncon, or secret baby
-Though we love reading HistRom and Romantasy, we have less industry knowledge on these subgenres

MENTORING STYLE

We plan to provide a joint edit letter on your complete manuscript and Zoom call to discuss next steps. From there, we can be available for the occasional Zoom check-in, as well as through email. We’ll also review and give feedback on your query letter, synopsis, and provide some general querying advice. Note: Ellie and Naina are both working authors on alternating deadlines, and there may be times when one mentor is more available than the other.

APPLICATIONS FROM CONNECTIONS

We're open to working with writers we are mutuals with on social media, but please do not apply to us if we’ve ever beta read for you or have had extensive conversations with you online.
