MENTOR:
Audrey Ruoff (she/her)
CATEGORY:
Adult
SUB GENRES:
Contemporary Romance, Rom Com, Paranormal, Genre Bend/Speculative
BIO:
Audrey Goldberg Ruoff writes contemporary and witchy romcoms and fantasy, all with stabby, stubborn bisexual main characters. She is a former high school English and journalism teacher with the enthusiasm of Valerie Frizzle and a soft spot for accurate representation of teaching & school. She lives in a suburb of Washington DC with her partner, two young children, a scrappy but loyal little dog, and a witchy cat. You can find her on Twitter @MsAGoldberg, on Instagram, Threads, on TikTok @audreygoldbergruoff, and at www.audreyruoff.com. Her debut, HOPELESSLY TEAVOTED, is coming from Atria in 2025. If you have a special interest that you are willing to nerd out over, she's probably the person to talk to about it!
MSWL:
I love an inclusive, swoon-worthy romance that will make me root for your characters! If you are comping to oddly specific interests, especially those that you might describe as nerdy, I love it. I am looking for grounded (our world) romance and romcom, but a speculative twist is always great! I’m particularly interested in supporting voices traditionally excluded from romance and writing. I am not a good fit for stories that include glorified gun ownership, main characters in the police or military, on-page sexual assault, the death of small children, dubious consent, or toxic purity culture.
MENTORING STYLE
I will be honest about room for growth and development, but useful feedback has to also include what is working and spotlight strengths, so expect enthusiasm about those parts of your writing. I'm a former high school teacher, so I am also very open to people having different needs regarding feedback; if you can tell me what kind of feedback helps you most, I can probably provide it! I'm comfortable with mentorship via comments and email, and I'm also open to text messaging, phone calls, or video chat, as well as open to not doing one or more of those things if they're anxiety-inducing for a mentee.
APPLICATIONS FROM CONNECTIONS
Please do not apply to me if we are already critique partners. If we're in the same discord(s) or mutuals on social media but haven't talked more than a comment on a post here or there, feel free to apply.
